BUFFALO CENTER – The Waldorf College cheerleading team is excited to announce the addition of Madison Stenersen.
Stenersen, a senior at North Iowa High School, signed a letter of intent with the Warriors on Friday.
"I am thrilled that Madi has decided to further her cheerleading career at Waldorf," Waldorf coach Dyanna Quisling said.
Quisling, who previously coached at North Iowa, knows what Stenersen will contribute to the Warrior program.
"Having coached her in middle school and in high school, I know that Madi will bring leadership and experience to the squad," Quisling said.
A four-year varsity letter winner, Stenersen helped the Bison to runner-up honors in the 2012 Iowa Cheerleading Coaches' Association (ICCA) state competition. North Iowa placed seventh in the 2013 state competition.
"Madi has been a solid player for the past five years as a cheerleader at North Iowa and has been fortunate enough to have former Waldorf cheerleader Samantha Lampman as her coach this past year," Quisling said.
Stenersen is the daughter of Reed and Krista Stenersen. She plans to earn a degree in education at Waldorf. Following a visit to campus, Stenersen was ready to join the Warriors.
"When I visited Waldorf, I felt at home," Stenersen said. "Everyone was so warm and welcoming."
Cheerleading is a sport that has been close to Stenersen's heart for several years. She's looking forward to developing her skills while growing as an individual at Waldorf.
"In high school, I fell in love with the sport of cheerleading," Stenersen said. "It taught me how to be dedicated and find strength. Pursuing this sport in college has given me the opportunity to build on these characteristics and become a more responsible person."
Stenersen is the 14th member of Waldorf's 2015-16 recruiting class. She's expected to provide experience for the Warriors, who enter their first season of competition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) next spring.
"Madi is not only an excellent student, but also a high-quality base," Quisling said. "She will be a huge addition to the competition squad next year."
