YORK, Neb. – The Waldorf College baseball team came up empty in a four-game Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) series with York College.
The Panthers (24-14, 11-5) won by scores of 7-2 and 15-5 to complete the series sweep in Saturday's doubleheader.
Waldorf senior Kendrick White went deep with a solo home run and sophomore Ryan Villarreal provided an RBI single. Sophomore Kellan Mick and senior Ben Alexander contributed doubles as the Warriors finished with 10 hits.
Senior Max Querin took the loss on the mound. Querin (2-3) struck out four batters, walked three and allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits in five and one-third innings.
Rudy Perez led York with three hits. The Panthers collected 12 hits, receiving two hits each from Josh Burgner and Michael Johnson
York's John Mead and PJ Matha combined to strike out 13 batters. Mead (3-4) earned the win as he fanned eight, walked one and yielded two runs on nine hits in seven innings.
The Warriors left 11 runners on base and the Panthers stranded eight.
York struck in the bottom of the first inning as Jose Bueno delivered an RBI single.
Pepe Marquez knocked in a run on a fielder's choice in the fourth and Johnson stole home to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.
White knocked it out of the park in the fifth with a solo shot over the left-field fence. The senior first baseman from Kansas City, Mo. leads Waldorf with three homers on the season.
York received an RBI sacrifice fly from Bueno in the fifth.
Villarreal singled in the sixth to score Alexander, trimming the Panthers' lead to 4-2.
Sean Goodall connected on a run-scoring single and Ivan Perez drove in a run on sac fly, boosting York to a four-run advantage in the sixth. Anthony Enriquez smacked an RBI double in the eighth.
Villarreal went 2-for-3 with a two-run double in the nightcap. Tedesco also finished 2-for-3 with an RBI single.
Freshman Lucas McKeon was hit with the loss. McKeon (2-3) finished with three strikeouts and two walks as he surrendered nine runs (seven earned) on 10 hits in three innings
Waldorf senior Reid Gilbertson struck out two batters and gave up six runs (five earned) on nine hits in two and one-third innings. Freshman Adam Kovash worked the final two-thirds inning on the mound
Enriquez powered the Panthers with four hits. Ivan Perez added three hits and three RBIs. Marquez also had three hits as York cranked out 19 hits.
Three York pitchers combined to punch out 11 batters. Julio Angulo (6-2) walked away with the win as he notched nine strikeouts, issued two walks and yielded for runs (three earned) on six hits in five innings.
The Warriors stranded nine base runners and York left 10 on base.
Ivan Perez started the scoring for the Panthers, driving in a run with a first-inning single.
Waldorf went on top 2-1 in the second as Villarreal doubled to score Mick and Alexander.
York erupted for five runs on five hits in the second. Johnson led off the inning with a homer. Rudy Perez added an RBI sac fly, Bueno cracked a two-run single and Garrett Anctil knocked in a run on sac fly.
The Panthers tacked on three more runs in the third. Johnson scored on a wild pitch, Ivan Perez drove in a run and Marquez came home on an error.
Senior Casey Smith scored on an error for the Warriors in the fourth and Breit singled to bring home Mick.
York extended its lead to 14-4 in the fourth, producing four runs on three hits and two errors. Jordan Pella provided an RBI single, Marquez had a two-run double and Enriquez knocked in a run.
Mick crossed home plate following a sixth-inning single from Tedesco.
The Panthers received RBI singles from Ivan Perez and Dylan Roller in the sixth.
Waldorf steps away from conference play to host Morningside College (26-9) in Monday's 2 p.m. doubleheader. The Mustangs have won six of their last seven outings.
