FOREST CITY, Iowa – Defending their home pitch Monday night, the Warriors valiantly battled for 70-plus minutes.
But with few subs, the Waldorf women's soccer team slowly tired and saw visiting St. Catherine pull away late to score a 4-0 nonconference victory at Bolstorff Field.
Both teams played even for the majority of the first half until a long shot from the left side snuck under the crossbar with 52 seconds left before halftime, sending the Warriors (1-13 overall) into the break, down 1-0.
Unfazed by the late tally, Waldorf battle hard right from the second half kick-off, playing even with visiting St. Catherine, but couldn't find the equalizer.
And as the game wore on, it wore down the Warriors who played with only three substitutes.
That limited bench opened the door for the Wildcats as they scored twice in the 72nd minute to pull away, then St. Catherine capped the evening's scoring with a final goal in the 84th minute.
The Warriors are back on the road this weekend, returning to North Star Athletic Association play when they visit Presentation College on Saturday at noon.
