PANORA – Fernanda Valdes tied for seventh place to lead the Waldorf College women's golf team in this weekend's AIB Fall Invitational.
Valdes fired a 36-hole score of 172 during the two-day tournament at Lake Panorama National Golf Course. She carded rounds of 91 and 81. Valdes, a freshman from Morelia, Mexico, has placed in the top 10 in her first three collegiate competitions.
The Warriors finished seventh in the team standings with a 756-stroke team total. After shooting a 387 during Friday's opening round, Waldorf improved by 18 strokes with a 369 on Saturday.
Three golfers improved their scores for the Warriors during the final day of action.
Waldorf's Trinity Hill put together a solid outing, tying for 19th place with a 187. The freshman from Plainfield, Ill. turned in rounds of 94 and 83.
Hannah Ohm, a freshman from Fargo, N.D., tied for 29th with a 198. She opened the tournament with a 107 and shot a 91 during the second round.
Kailee Ward finished 32nd with a 199. The freshman from San Jacinto, Calif. completed the tournament with rounds of 95 and 104.
Clarke University won the team championship with a 686. AIB College of Business (704) grabbed second, finishing ahead of Grand View University (709), Des Moines Area Community College (717), Graceland University (750), Iowa Central Community College (753) and Waldorf (756).
Grand View's Maria Mantilla captured individual honors, winning the tournament with a 151. Iowa Central's Julie Laisney earned the runner-up spot, finishing five strokes behind Mantilla.
The Warriors continue the fall season in Thursday's NIACC Fall Invitational at Mason City, beginning at 11 a.m.
