David Cheeks
Head Coach - 1st Season

 

David Cheeks was appointed Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach in January 2013.  Cheeks has served as Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach since the fall of 2011.  During that time he has overseen the training of men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, golf, ice hockey, cheerleading, and cross country.  For the past two years, Cheeks has served as the Head Coach of the Waldorf Track and Field Club.

Prior to Waldorf, Cheeks was a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Frostburg State University.  He designed and implemented training programs for volleyball, swimming, track and field, and men’s lacrosse team.  His graduate studies focused on physical education, sports nutrition, and sport psychology.  Cheeks also served as an Assistant Track and Field coach for one year.

Cheeks completed his Bachelors of Science in Exercise Sports Science at Frostburg State.  He competed in sprints and jumps as a member of the track and field squad.  He was a 16-time All-Conference selection and two-time National qualifier.  Since completing his collegiate career, he continues to train and compete in track and field events.

Cheeks hold many certifications and specialist licensures including Certified Personal Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA.  He is a USA Track and Field Level I Certified Coach.  Cheeks is working to complete his United States Sports Academy Level II Certification for Cross Country and Endurance Event Specialist Certification from the USTFCCA.

Cheeks will be completing his MBA in Health Care Management from Columbia Southern University.
