Marilyn Schachel enters her second season as the Head Coach for the Men's and Women's Bowling teams at Waldorf College.
Before coming to Waldorf Schachel spent four years as Coach of the Mason City High School Bowling teams. In the first year as a sanctioned sport, her girls won the CIML-Iowa Conference tournament and this past year led the conference in season wins with a record of 8-2. During those four years Schachel developed a youth bowling program that expanded from just three bowlers to over 40. In 2008 her boys youth team won the USBC state handicapped division II with a scratch score of 2696.
Schachel has been coaching youth bowlers for 9 years and has been a successful bowler herself. Her career high average is 188 and she has bowled 2 700's since her move to North Iowa. She attends all local, state and national tournaments for both women's tournaments and USBC championships. She has had lessons as a player and as a coach from some of the best in the bowling PBA. Coaches include Jim King - gold coach, Bryce Elision and Lucy Bonneau - team USA coach.
Schachel graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a Music Education Degree, found her way into business management and then came back to Iowa and she and her husband bought a bowling center, simply "because they love the game." Since purchasing the center, she has acquired her USBC bronze certification, IGHS coaching certifications and has coached youth bowlers.
She is currently the Manager and Owner of Mystic Lanes in Mason City.
