Warriors Push Personal Bests at 1st Outdoor Meet of the Season
DES MOINES, IA - The Warriors traveled to Grandview University this past weekend to compete in the Viking Relays. The men's team recorded 11 personal records, and 9 placements within the top 10. The women's team also had a great weekend recording 5 personal records, 5 top 10 placements, and beat 1 school record.
For the men, four of those PRs came in the 100 meter dash. Brunelson Dominique ran a 11.65, Andreaz Ramos ran a 11.59, Marquis Simpson ran a 11.55, and Michael Williams ran a 11.98. Ramos and Williams also PR'd in other events as well. Ramos beat his prior 400m time with a time of 55.70. Williams also beat both his 200m and 400m with times of 25.02 and 57.35 respectively. Freshman Blayson Dolney also set two new personal bests running a 53.19 in the 200m and a 2.11.58 in the 800m.
For field events, freshman James Robey threw a 36.78 hammer throw earning him a 6th all-time placement in the school record book.
On the women's side of things, the warriors found momentum on both the field and track events. Junior Eliza Mckown set her 10th school record in the 1500m running a 4:59.37 earning her a 1st place finish. 5 warriors also placed with top 10 finishes.
Freshman Erica Palisoc set 2 new personal bests in the 100m and 200m with times of 1.13.12 and 28.98 respectively.
For field events, our women found their groove in their throws, earning top ten marks to start their outdoor season. Junior, Justice Battle started off with a personal best of throwing a 10.26 in the shot put. Freshman Faith Haughwout set a new personal record in the shot put with a distance of 10.62. Freshman Emma Logeman competed in the hammer throw, recording a distance of 30.12.
Coach Janna was pleased with todays performance and is excited to see where this season goes "I'm happy with how we opened up this weekend. Our fitness is right about where I expected us to be and our athletes competed well. I am looking forward to the rest of outdoor season and building towards our GPAC conference meet".
The Warriors are back in action next weekend in Pella, Iowa to compete at Central College's Dutch Invitational.
