McKown finishes her season 10th in the Nation
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Eliza McKown competed in the 45th Annual NAIA Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Championships on Thursday, May 21. After lightning delayed the competitions, McKown raced the 800m three hours after the scheduled start time.
The prelims consisted of three heats with 21 total athletes. The top two finishers in each heat automatically qualify and the next two fastest times are at-large qualifiers, advancing eight to the finals. McKown raced in the second heat, crossing the finish line 3rd with a time of 2:11.12. She was just 1.38 seconds behind 2nd place in her heat and 1.61 seconds behind the second at-large qualifier.
Although she didn't advance to the finals race, McKown still raced her fastest time in the outdoor 800m race, shaving 1.92 seconds off her previous best and placing 10th in the nation. Of every 800m time so far this season, she holds the 16th best time in the NAIA, moving up two spots from her qualifying time.
Coach Janna Langrell said, "I am so incredibly proud of Eliza. She has bought into the training and trusted it every step of the way. Her success is a testament of her discipline and hard work. This is likely one of the fastest NAIA National Championship meets, and I'm proud of how she raced. Couldn't have asked for a better end to her outdoor career."
"I have so much gratitude for finishing my final outdoor season back on the national stage with the most supportive coach by my side," McKown said. "I truly couldn't have asked for a better four years doing the gift God gave me. This program has given me so much: memories, growth, friendships, and a place that felt like home. Forever grateful for this journey and everyone who was part of it."
