Waldorf Esports finish Third in NECC Nationals, end Spring Season with more Postseason Appearances
FOREST CITY, Iowa – Waldorf Esports concluded their spring season with postseason appearances in Marvel Rivals, Rocket League, and Overwatch.
The Super Smash Bros. team finished their regular season with a 2-4 record. After a 2-0 loss to Governors State University in early February, they tallied their first win of the spring a week later with a 2-1 win over the Lakeland Muskies. The team fell to Buena Vista University in a 2-0 loss at the end of February but won against Augustana College 2-0 to open the month of March. With a 2-1 loss to Wartburg College and a 2-0 loss to South Dakota Mines, the team was unable to make the playoffs.
The Rocket League team finished the spring season with a 4-2 record, winning over University of North Carolina, Asheville, University of Florida, Missouri Southern State, and Clark University. In the quarterfinals of conference playoffs, the team won 4-1 over Bradley University and in the semifinals, won 4-3 over Hendrix College. For the conference finals, the Rocket League team fell to Drury University with a final score of 4-1.
The Overwatch team had a regular season record of 6-1 with their only loss to University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. They faced Fresno Pacific University in the conference quarterfinals and lost 3-1. In the first round of nationals, they beat Bethany (KS) 3-2 but lost in the next round to Edinboro University 3-1.
After their championship win last season, the Marvel Rivals team moved up a division in conference play, facing higher ranked teams but still earning their way into the quarterfinals. Their regular season record was 4-1 with 3-0 wins over Wayne State College, Mississippi State University, Arkansas Tech University, and University of Louisville. Their only regular season loss was to Southern Virginia University with a 3-1 final score. In the quarterfinals of conference playoffs, the Marvel Rivals team lost their first game 3-1 to Minot State University. They overcame Morningside University in the first round of nationals with a 3-0 win but couldn't hold back Oklahoma City University, who won 3-1. However, the team didn't let their losses affect them. They faced Minot State one more time, winning 3-1 to earn 3rd place in NECC Nationals.
