CRETE, Nebraska. Waldorf University closed a challenging weekend on a high note Saturday afternoon, edging host Doane University 4-3 in Crete, Nebraska, to earn its lone win in a four-game road series. In the two games on Friday, the Warriors fell to Doane 16-5 and 14-4. In the first game on Saturday, the Warriors fell 2-0 to the Tigers. The Warriors secured the victory behind a timely offensive performance from Jack Kamalski and a strong start on the mound from right-hander Ben Dornseif.
Kamalski drove in three runs to pace the Warriors' lineup, supplying the bulk of the offense in the one-run decision. His production in run-scoring situations helped Waldorf build and protect a narrow margin against the Tigers, giving the Warriors enough cushion to withstand a late push from the home team. Kamalski's three-RBI effort stood out on a weekend when runs were often at a premium for Waldorf.
Adding to the offensive support, Cameren Rindone chipped in with an RBI and scored a run, factoring directly into half of Waldorf's total. Rindone's ability to both drive in and cross the plate provided a critical spark in a lineup looking to capitalize on limited scoring chances. Together, Kamalski and Rindone were involved in all four of the Warriors' runs in the 4-3 win.
On the mound, Dornseif set the tone early, working five innings and holding Doane to just one run while striking out three. His ability to limit traffic and avoid big innings allowed Waldorf to play from ahead and lean on its defense. After Dornseif's exit, the Warriors' pitching staff combined to keep the Tigers in check, surrendering only six total hits in the game to preserve the narrow lead.
The staff's collective effort proved decisive as Doane attempted to rally late. With the margin never wider than a few runs, Waldorf's pitchers consistently generated outs under pressure, forcing the Tigers to string together hits that never fully materialized. Limiting Doane to six hits over the full contest gave the Warriors room to navigate a one-run game on the road.
The victory capped a difficult trip in which Waldorf dropped three of four games over March 13-14 at Doane University. Despite the overall series result, the 4-3 decision provided a positive takeaway and momentum heading into the next homestand. The Warriors are scheduled to return to Forest City next weekend to host Midland in a two-game series on Saturday, March 21, sitting at 8-16 overall, and a 1-3 mark in conference play.
