Hockey Adds Holbeche to 2023-24 Team

FOREST CITY, IA -- The Waldorf University Division I ACHA Hockey Team added to its growing goaltending stable for the upcoming season, signing netminder Vaughn Holbeche of Lloydminster, Alberta, Canada.  Holbeche comes to Waldorf following two standout seasons with the Wainwright Bisons of the North Eastern Alberta Junior B Hockey League (NEAJBHL). 

"Vaughn is a great addition to our program and brings some championship experience to our goaltending staff," said Waldorf Head Coach Mike Heitkamp.  "His compete level and determination will be a great addition to our goaltending staff, and we are extremely excited to have Vaughn join us in the Fall!" 

Holbeche saw action in 57 career games over two seasons for Wainwright, leading the Bisons to back-to-back league titles and a provincial championship.   While his regular season goals against average (GAA) was always low (2.27 in 2021-22, 2.26 in 2022-23), Holbeche raised his game to a new level when it mattered most.  He backstopped the Bisons to the 2022-2023 Alberta provincial championship in April, playing every game and posting a 1.61 GAA and .940 save percentage.  

Holbeche joins a growing incoming freshman class as Waldorf strives to take another step forward next season. The Warriors recently finished a 13-win campaign, the program's most victories as an ACHA Division 1 program.  Waldorf will begin its 2023-24 season in September.
