Hockey - Warriors Get Comeback Win Against Jacks
The Waldorf hockey team returned to the ice for a non-conference weekend series against Dakota College at Bottineau. The Warriors won 3-1.
Both teams battled in the first period which remained scoreless. The Warriors led with 10 shots on goal compared to six for the Jacks.
In the second period, the Jacks scored the only goal at the 14-minute mark.
"We struggled the first two periods and Bottineau played well," stated Head Coach Mike Heitkamp. "I was happy to see the guys come out in the third and find a way to win."
The Warriors had a quick turnaround by scoring all three of their goals in the third period. Tyler Nelson (SO/Pleasantion, CA) scored first, assisted by Michael Heitkamp (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) and Jacob Lindblom (JR/Pine City, MN).
Chayse Haberman (JR/Minot, ND) scored the second goal for the Warriors, assists from Cale Anderson (FR/Maple Ridge, British Columbia) and Campbell Jackson (JR/Hermosa Beach, CA). The third goal came from Nelson, assisted by Anderson and Jeremiah Lebsack (SO/Duluth, MN).
Goaltender Jordan Berschiminsky (SO/Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) finished the game with 24 saves.
"It was extra special since Chayse Haberman scored the winning goal and Jordan Berschiminsky played great in the net," Heitkamp said. "Both players played at Dakota College at Bottineau last year."
The Warriors will conclude their weekend series tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 28th against the Jacks. Puck drop is at 1:30 p.m.
