Waldorf Hockey Honors Seniors to Close out Regular Season
The Waldorf hockey team closed out their regular season schedule for their second game against Midland and honored three seniors. In close game, the Waldorf fell 7-6.
"We were happy with the compete level today," Head Coach Mike Heitkamp stated. "The guys battled in all three periods. Unfortunately we played too much of the game on special teams. We need to the play them five on five."
Waldorf was first to score in the first period with Michael Heitkamp (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) getting the goal, assisted by Wade Auger (SR/Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan) and Campbell Jackson (JR/Hermosa Beach, CA).
Jacob Lindblom (JR/Pine City, MN) kept the momentum going by getting the second goal on a power-play against Midland. Tyler Nelson (SO/Pleasanton, CA) and Heitkamp were credited on the assists.
To start the second period, Nelson found the back of the net within the first minute, assisted by Lindblom. Waldorf was up 3-0.
Midland responded by scoring their first goal on a power-play against Waldorf.
Less than a minute later, Nelson scored his second goal of the night, assists from Austin Mood-Flagg (JR/Slave Lake, Alberta) and Chayse Haberman (JR/Minot, ND).
Midland scored their second goal on another power-play against Waldorf.
The fifth goal for Waldorf came from Auger, assisted by Morgan Sweeney (JR/Hastings, MN) and Heitkamp on a power-play against Midland.
Midland scored two more goals to close out the second period. Waldorf was up 5-4.
In the third period, Midland was first to find the back of the net on a power-play against Waldorf. Their next goal was unassisted to take the lead 6-5.
Auger tied the game at the 16-minute mark, Lindblom was credited for the assist.
Both teams battled and fought hard to score the game-winning goal. Midland scored on a power-play to win the game 7-6.
Goaltender Jordan Berschiminsky (SO/Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) finished the game with 39 saves. "Jordan Berschiminsky played well in net and made some timely saves to keep the game close. We need to play them five on five next week at the conference tournament to have a chance at advancing," Heitkamp said.
The Warriors finished the season 13-16-2 overall and 7-10-2 in conference and will start MCH conference tournament play on Friday in Fremont, Nebraska.
