Men's Outdoor Track Had Strong Showing at USD Early Bird Meet
VERMILLION, S.D. – The Waldorf men's outdoor track teams competed at the USD Early Bird meet hosted by the University of South Dakota at the Lillibridge Track Complex on Friday and Saturday. The weekend consisted of 15 personal records, two school records, and two NAIA 'B' standards met.
"We had a great showing this weekend on both Friday and Saturday. Not only did Khamarly and Wade break their own school records, but they also hit national qualifying standards as well," stated Interim Head Coach Janna Langrell. "This year has been historic in the amount of personal records and school records that have been broken and we are striving to continue that pattern throughout the season."
On Friday, Wade Baker (SR/Chewelah, WA) competed in the shot put and finished with a 14.78m. Chris May (JR/Greenland, AR) set a personal record in the hammer throw with a throw of 39.30m.
Khamarly Holmes (SR/Homestead, FL) hit the NAIA 'B' standard in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.75, which was also a personal record and school record.
Andrew Huber (SR/Worthington, MN) ran in his first race of the outdoor season in the 1500m with a time of 4:36.44.
Saturday continued the trend for more personal and school records. Baker hit the NAIA 'B' standard, personal record, and school record in the discus with a throw of 46.72m. May also set a personal record in the javelin and finished with a toss of 32.48m.
Jorge Olivo-Cabrera (SR/Andover, MN) got a 10th place finish in the 400m hurdles with a personal record of 56.65. Olivo-Cabrera also ran the 110m hurdles. In the prelims, he ran a personal record of 14.71 and then went on to take 5th overall with 14.78.
Holmes also ran the 400m and got an 8th place finish with a personal record time of 49.41. Xzayvier Horton (FR/Atlanta, GA), Nolan Reynolds (SR/Olympia, WA), Chase Bennentt (SR/Junction City, KS) and Huber all ran the 400m with two PRs. Bennett also ran the 800m with a personal record time.
The Waldorf 4x400m relay team, consisted of Holmes, Horton, Olivo-Cabrera, and Reynolds, finished 4th place with a time of 3:27.27.
Nehemiah Harrell (FR/Cincinnati, OH) and Jaylen Malone (FR/Conroe, TX) ran both the 100m and 200m with setting new personal records in both races. Jeaceajay Jappah (FR/Alexandria, VA) also ran the 200m and set PR.
Next up for the Warriors is the Norse Invitational hosted by Luther College in Decorach, Iowa on Saturday, April 15th starting at 10 a.m.
