School record and PRs highlight men's track and field at Drake
DES MOINES, Iowa - The Waldorf men's track and field team made their first of two trips to the Drake University track Friday for the Jim Duncan Invitational. The day was highlighted by a school record and a number of personal records.
"We had a small squad this weekend, but our staff is extremely proud of how our athletes competed," said head coach Janna Langrell. "This weekend reaffirmed where we are and we are happy with where fitness levels are."
Setting another school record this outdoor season was Wade Baker. His mark of 54.53 meters broke the previous school by nearly two meters (1.94). He hit the national A standard in the event. He currently has the best hammer throw in the NSAA and he stands 16th in NAIA.
"Watching Wade compete is always exciting," said Langrell. "We are watching Waldorf Track & Field history be rewritten on a weekly basis. Our men looked strong and our relays are continuing to improve."
Robert Beal, Jorge Olivo-Cabrera, Robay Birri, and Xzayvier Horton teamed in the 4x100-meter relay for a time of 44.31. Horton, Olivo-Cabrera, Beal, and Nolan Reynolds combined for a time of 3:27.44 in the 4x400-meter relay.
Horton also ran a time of 22.81 in the 200-meter dash. Olivo-Cabrera ran 15.01 in the 110-meter hurdles and 58.61 in the 400-meter hurdles.
Reynolds is competing in decathlon events this week at the NSAA Multi-Meet. The team takes part next week at the Drake Relays and Kip Janvrin Open.
