Cassidy Blair plays way into top-20, leads way for Waldorf women's golf at Lila Frommelt tourney
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Waldorf's Cassidy Blair led the way, carding a pair of birdies during her opening round for the Warrior women's golf team, which is tied for ninth after the first day of the Lila Frommelt Fall Classic hosted by Briar Cliff.
Blair shot a 15-over 86 and is tied for 19th, leading a strong effort by the Waldorf women who as a team were tied with Doane as each shot 86-over 370 totals at the Two Rivers Golf Course on Friday.
"Other than a couple of hiccups on the scorecard the ladies played a good round," Waldorf head coach Mark Clouse said.
"Cassidy Blair had a nice day that included two birdies," he added.
Blair shot birdie on the par-5 second hole and the par-5 18th during her round.
She was closely followed by teammate Nicole Misner, who shot an 18-over 89 on the par-71 course. Misner is 28th after the opening round.
Katherine Johnson was next for the Warriors as she is tied for 39th after a 23-over 94, which included a birdie on the par-5 11th hole, then came Jordan Aholt, who was tied for 56th after a 30-over 101, and Nadia Turner, who was tied for 59th after a 32-over 103.
Morningside's Laia Badosa leads the individual tournament field by three shots after she carded a 3-over 74, while her team leads the team race by 24 strokes after a first-round total of 28-over 312.
Play at the Lila Frommelt Fall Classic concludes with 18 more holes on Saturday.
"I'm confident we can make up some ground tomorrow," Clouse said.
