Waldorf Women’s Golf faces challenging conditions at Mozingo Lake
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Waldorf Women's Golf Team finished in eighth place after rounds of 448 and 440 at the Graceland Invitational held at Mozingo Lake Golf Course March 27-28. Play finished Saturday evening on the par-72, 5,825-yard layout.
All four counting scores for the Warriors were within 12 places on the leaderboard. Ashlyn Gutierrez led the pack with a 42nd-place finish after logging a 108-101. Laynee Simpson and Lindsay Clouse were next, tying for 50th. Shelby Effle rounded out the group in 54th.
Poppy Norcott of Indian Hills CC claimed medalist honors after two loops on the Sechrest 18, playing her way to a four-stroke victory. The Indian Hills Warriors also won the team title over Clarke University.
"We had a very demanding two days of competition," head coach Mark Clouse said. "The strong winds and cold temperatures made the tournament especially challenging."
Prior to Friday's day of play, coaches decided to begin the second round immediately following the first, anticipating freezing conditions Saturday morning. The decision proved fruitful, as Saturday's start time was delayed one hour. Players had finished between one and four extra holes on Friday evening before sunset, allowing for a timely finish on Saturday.
The Warriors are in action again Monday, April 6 when they compete in the DMACC Spring Invitational at Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone, Iowa.
