Serrano-Rios, Bruno Compete at NAIA National Championship
WICHITA, Kan. - Alanis Serrano-Rios and Skyler Bruno competed at the 3rd Annual Women's Wrestling National Championship on March 14 and 15 in the Park City Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
Serrano-Rios competed in the 103 division and ranked #19 in the National ranking polls. She received a bye her first round in the Championship bracket and faced off against Cumberlands #6 Dutchess King, losing by a Technical Fall. She moved to the Consolation Bracket where she would receive a bye her third round and face off against Saint Mary's Eyvori Jacquez, losing by Decision 7-0.
Bruno competed in the 207 division and ranked #17 in the National ranking polls. She received a bye her first round in the Championship Bracket and faced off against Lindsey Wilson's #8 Hayeni Costa, losing by Decision 8-0. She would move to the Consolation Bracket and face off against Cumberland's Namoi Duenas, losing by Technical Fall 14-2.
Coach Tyreece Gilder said, "Tough outing at the big show. The girls wrestled hard, but ultimately came up short. Solid season from the both of them! Just making it to Nationals shows that they're among the best wrestlers in the country, and I'm proud of their effort and fight on the mat. We have work to do as prep for next season has already begun."
