Waldorf's Houdayer and Karvala Sweep NSAA Weekly Honors
BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) released the seventh edition of the Golfers of the Week for the 2023-24 season on Wednesday. Thomas Houdayer and Amanda Karvala were both tabbed after their performances over this past weekend leading to a Warrior sweep in the weekly recognition.
"Very nice way to finish the fall competitive season for our teams," Head Coach Mark Clouse stated. "Thomas had a solid performance in our final tournament and I'm happy he has been recognized for his good play. I know he is looking forward to the spring season and building off the positive momentum."
Houdayer (JR/Ervuex, France) chipped his way to a fourth-place finish at the Culver-Stockon (Mo.) Invitational and received his first NSAA Golfer of the Week nod on the year. During the two-day tournament, Houdayer opened with 76 strokes for the first card after day one. After the first nine-holes, Houdayer would be tied with the lead at 35 strokes and would move to a tie for third with three others by the end of the day. Houdayer followed up his day one performance with 74 strokes and placed outright in fourth place with 150 strokes. Houdayer had two rounds of nine-holes for 35 strokes, tied for the second best in the tournament only behind the winning golfer, Griffin Taylor, from Quincy University.
This is Karvala's second time winning the NSAA Golfer of the Week with her first being in the second edition. Karvala (JR/New Berlin, WI) finished the Culver-Stockton (Mo.) Invitational in third place after carding a two-day total of 168 strokes in two rounds. Karvala started off with a card of 83 strokes after the first round then followed that up with 85 strokes for the next day's total. With Karvala leading the way, the team finished the tournament in second place. She would post nine-hole scores of 42 and 41 strokes to finish day one tied for second. Karvala showed great consistency into the next day carding scores of 43 and 42 strokes placing her in a tie for fourth.
Clouse added, "Amanda has made a habit out of being named conference player of the week during her career. She has competed well during the fall season, and I see no reason why that won't continue in the spring."
