Warriors Open Season With Sweep at Clarke
DUBUQUE, IA – The Waldorf women's volleyball team opened this 2023 schedule with an away triangular hosted by Clarke University. The Warriors won both matches in three.
"I was pleased with the individual and team effort today. We have been eagerly looking forward to beginning our competitive season, and a lot of things from the practice gym translated well," Head Coach Bri Ebenhoe stated. "We had a balanced offensive effort and showed moments of dominance. While we are very happy with the results, we know that there is more work to do and are ready to get back into the Hanson Fieldhouse and start improving."
In the first match against Roosevelt, the Warriors won 25-16, 25-19, 25-17. Kenzie Kidd (SR/Roscoe, IL) led the way with 14 kills with only one hitting error, giving her an impressive .520 hitting percentage. Anna Longhenry (SO/Fenton, IA) and Sydney Kidd (FR/Roscoe, IL) tallied six kills each. Emma Hovenga (SR/Forest City, IA) and Reinya Balderson (FR/Marshfield, WI) had 12 and 13 assists respectfully. Kaylee Kidd (SR/Roscoe, IL) had a team high of 14 digs.
For the second match, the Warriors swept the host school with an exciting third set. The Warriors won 25-14, 25-16, 28-26. Annie Stotlar (JR/Davenport, IA) had a team high of eight kills. Sydney Kidd added seven and Charlotte Wright (SR/Portner, MN) had six. The Warriors had three athletes with double-digit digs, Alisha Schaefer (SR/Mount Calvary, WI) with 12, Kaylee Kidd with 11, and Balderson with 10. Alicia Brandt and Longhenry dominated the net with seven and six block assists.
"I do want to call attention to Kaylee Kidd, who recorded her 1,000th career dig today. She has improved so much over her four years at Waldorf, and I am incredibly proud of her," Ebenhoe said.
The Warriors are back on the road on Saturday, August 26th for a triangular at Peru State College. The first game is at 12pm against Bethany (KS) followed by the host school at 2pm.
