Volleyball Falls Short to Trojans in Four
FOREST CITY, IA – The Waldorf volleyball team hosted the Dakota State Trojans for an NSAA conference match on Friday evening. After winning the first set, the Warriors lost the next three, 1-3.
Set 1: The game started off with a back-and-forth trade off of points between the teams. The Warriors pulled a head at 15-13 from a kill by Kenzie Kidd (SR/Roscoe, IL). Back-to-back kills from Annie Stotlar (JR/Davenport, IA) forced the Trojans to call a timeout at 20-15. Waldorf closed out the set by capitalizing on Dakota State errors and a Stotlar kill to win 25-16. The Warriors finished with 13 kills and only one error.
Set 2: The second set consisted of 11 tie scores and eight lead changes. The Warriors went on a five point run that started a kill from Kenzie Kidd, Alicia Brandt (JR/Lakefield, MN), two by Stotlar, and a service ace by Kaylee Kidd (SR/Roscoe, IL). Waldorf kept their lead at 12-7 before Dakota State tied the game at 12. Another five point run by the Warriors re-tied the game at 18. The Trojans pulled out the win at 28-26. The Warriors finished with a match-high of 14 kills compared to the Trojans 10.
Set 3: Anna Longhenry (SO/Fenton, IA) opened the set with three straight kills. A kill from Sydney Kidd (FR/Roscoe, IL) tied the game at 12-12. The Trojans extended the lead to 18-15. Kenzie Kidd re-tied the game at 19 with back-to-back kills until Dakota State won 25-21.
Set 4: Dakota State took an early 10-4. Waldorf tried to rally back but could not find ways to score. The Trojans extended their lead to 21-13. Longhenry got a kill and Emma Hovenga with a service ace tried to gain momentum to force a fifth set, but the Trojans won 25-16.
Longhnery finished with a team high of 13 kills. Kenzie Kidd tabbed a double-double of 17 digs and 10 kills and Sydney Kidd added 10 kills. Charlotte Wright and Longhery each had one solo block and assisted on three. Reinya Balderson (FR/Marshfield, WI) finished with 25 assists and three aces and Kaylee Kidd added 11 digs.
Next up for the volleyball team is their last away trip against Mayville State on Saturday, October 28th at 4 pm.
