Canadian Defenseman Wallace Joins Hockey for '23-'24
The Waldorf Hockey Team continues to bolster its roster for 2023-24 with a growing class of incoming freshmen. Waldorf Head Coach Mike Heitkamp announced the signing of defenseman Liam Wallace on Monday.
"Liam is a great addition to our defensive unit," Heitkamp said. "His vision of the ice and consistency in the defensive zone are two factors that really made him stand out in the recruiting process. He plays a simple game and moves the puck well. He has a great ability to read the ice and make quick decisions which will greatly help our offensive pressure."
Wallace, who is a native of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, made his junior hockey debut for the Castlegar Rebels of British Columbia's Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) in an abbreviated 2020-21 season. The defenseman then played the entirety of the 2021-22 and 2022-23 campaigns with the Rebels, playing in 79 career games including a playoff appearance in 2021-22.
"I see Liam being a big part of our offensive and defensive success as we develop our hockey program into a national contender," said Coach Heitkamp. "We are extremely excited to have Liam join us in the Fall and look forward to all the great things he will do for our program!"
Wallace's commitment marks the fifth incoming freshman commit for the Waldorf University Class of 2027. He is the second Canadian player to sign this year, and will join a roster which included seven Canadian players last season. The Warriors recently finished a 13-win campaign, the program's most victories as an ACHA Division 1 program. Waldorf will begin its 2023-24 season in September.
