Softball Drops Two to Dordt during Conference Opener
SIOUX CENTER, IA - Waldorf softball opened their conference season with a double header against Dordt on Wednesday, March 18th. They unfortunately dropped both games with scores of 11-0 and 6-1.
Game one was rather uneventful on the purple side of the field. The Warriors were only able to achieve one base runner for the duration of the game. Sophomore Reagan Ridout broke up the perfect game with the only hit of the outing. She hit a hard line drive to the left side, and a diving third basemen was not able to hang on. Makenzie Cope would take the loss in the circle after throwing 2.1 innings, and giving up 9 hits and only 3 earned runs.
Game two was a much closer battle with an ending score of 6-1. The defenders took an early lead scoring one run in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the third. The Warriors scored their only run in the top of the 5th inning. Sophomore Jaycee Plath singled up the middle, and freshman Avery Mauldin followed with a single of her own to center field. Sophomore Maili Jackson was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and freshman Kylie Bates achieved a full count walk to bring in the first and only run.
Reagan Ridout would throw a great but unfortunate outing in the circle after going 5.2 innings. She gave up 6 earned runs on 11 hits.
The Warriors will be back in action for their home opener this Saturday, March 21st against Midland University. The double header will take place at 1 & 3 PM cst.
