Waldorf Hockey Falls to Illinois State
BLOOMINGTON, IL - Waldorf Hockey competed in game 2 of the weekend series on Saturday. Illinois State University jumped out to a quick 3 goal lead in the first period. Three separate breakdowns helped Illinois State gain early momentum. The Warriors made a goalie change after the third goal when Vaughn Holbeche took the reins in net. The Warriors used the goalie change to shift the momentum and scratch back to 3-1 on a nice shot by Dominic Toews assisted by Peyton Inks.
The Warriors scored again in the 2nd on a nice deflection by Evan Koivunen on a point shot by Preston Castaneda. Arturas Laurynavichus would also add an assist. The 3rd period started 3-2 in favor of the Warriors when Illinois State scored two goals, going up 5-2. The Warriors would battle back when Audun Caple scored with assists going to Toews and Zak Molstad. The Warriors pressured the Redbirds late in the third, but fell short, losing 5-3. The Warriors outshot Illinois State 51-32, but couldn't find the back of the net. Holbeche had 30 saves on 32 shots. The Warriors are back in action at home next weekend January 30 and 31, hosting MCH conference member and nationally ranked #7 University of Jamestown. The Warriors will honor their seniors in Friday night's game, starting at 7pm. Saturday's game will start at 2pm.
