Softball team collects first win of season
CANTON, Mo. - The Waldorf softball team picked up its first win of the season Saturday in a non-conference doubleheader split with Culver-Stockton in Canton, Mo.
Waldorf dropped the opening game, 5-3. They did score early. The Warriors took advantage of Culver-Stockton wildness to secure their first run. In the first inning, an error and two walks loaded the bases. Kaela Eslinger drew another walk for the game's first run. Timber Oakes drove in another run with a single to right. The Wildcats countered with four in their half of the first. Waldorf added another run in the second, but they would score no further.
In the second game, a big second inning propelled the Warriors to a 4-3 win. Kassidy Elyea drove in Oakes for Waldorf's first run. Kierra Schulz and Maddie Dalke each singled to load the bases. They didn't stay loaded for long. Paige Pierson cleared the bases with a triple to right center. Waldorf led 4-1. Culver-Stockton added single runs in the second and third to close the gap. Dalke did her part in the circle to keep the Wildcats off the scoreboard the final four innings.
In a schedule update, Waldorf (1-10) will open up conference play Tuesday with a rare tripleheader at home against Valley City State. The games are being moved up from Saturday and Sunday in anticipation for poor weather conditions next weekend. First pitch of the first game Tuesday is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
