Waldorf drops 9 inning game on Day 3 in Florida
MELBOURNE, FL - Softball drops two hard fought games on Sunday against Indiana Tech (9-2) and Aquinas (4-3) in 9 innings.
Freshman Mackenzie Zimmermann held the Indiana Tech Warriors scoreless in the first inning, as was Waldorf. In the top of the second, Timber Oakes hit a triple in the right center gap and ended up scoring on an infield error by the Indiana Tech shortstop. Indiana Tech responded in their half of the inning with a lead-off walk that would end up scoring on an error by third baseman Haley Ehlert.
Both teams remained scoreless in the third. In the fourth, Indiana Tech took the lead on a lead-off single which would then score on an infield error. The ITU Warriors would then score 3 more runs in the 5th, and four runs in the 6th on five hits, one error, and 5 free passes. Waldorf attempted to cut the deficit in the top of the 7th with a two single by freshman Reagan Ridout who would end up scoring on an infield single by Savannah Lyford. Unfortunately, the inning was cut short due to a baserunning error resulting in a tag out.
Game two on the day went 9 innings. Freshman Jaycee Plath would go for a full 8 and Reagan Ridout would come in to attempt to push the game into the 10th. Aquinas scored two in the second with two one out singles. They would eventually score due to a ground ball to second base and a miscue on a first and third play. Waldorf would go scoreless until the top of the 7th. Timber Oakes got on base via a 1 out walk. Paige Pierson singled to shortstop. Kierra Lynn Schulz drew a two out walk to load the bases. Reagan Ridout hit an RBI single to left to cut the deficit to 2-1. Gabby Bierly drew a bases loaded walk tying the game at 2s. Pinch Hitter Haley Ehlert drew another bases loaded walk to take the lead 3-2.
After the second inning Jaycee Plath held the Saints scoreless until their half of the 7th when a walked batter scored on a sacrifice fly to right field to tie the game at 3-3. Waldorf remained scoreless in the 8th and 9th. Jaycee Plath would escape a bases loaded nobody out jam in the bottom of the 8th to turn the game over to the 9th inning. In the bottom of the 9th, Reagan Ridout would walk the first batter she faced and then give up a game winning double to center field.
Plath threw 115 pitches with 1 K in her 8 inning appearance.
The Warriors will play their last two games in Florida tomorrow at 10:00 AM and 12:15 PM EST against Defiance and Lourdes.
