Waldorf Softball Splits at St. Ambrose
The Waldorf softball team was back in action for two non-conference games at the Ambrose Dome. The first game was against Culver-Stockton College and the Warriors won 10-1 in 6 innings. The second game, the Warriors lost 0-8, in 5 innings, against St. Ambrose University.
In the first game, the Warriors started off strong by getting two runs in the first inning. Emily Muro (SR/Stanton, CA) scored the first run from an RBI by Kierra Lynnn Shulz (JR/Lena, IL). Brooke Hickey (SO/Adel, IA) scored the second unearned.
The Warriors kept the momentum by scoring three more runs in the second inning. Maddie Dalke (JR/Medford, OR) and Gabby Bierly (FR/Eagan, MN) each had an RBI with Kassidy Elyea (JR/Sioux Falls, SD) and Hickey scoring. Paige Pierson (SO/Cambridge, IA) scored the fifth run on a wild pitch.
The Wildcats scored their first run in the bottom of the second inning.
At the top of the 6th inning, Shulz hit a grand slam. Elyea had an RBI double with Kaela Eslinger scoring the tenth run.
Alex Mathers (SR/Green, IA) pitched all six innings with four strike outs.
For game two, the Fighting Bees started off scoring three runs in the 1st inning. Their fourth run came in the second inning. The Fighting Bees closed out the game with adding four more runs to take the win.
The Warriors were limited to one hit, from Hickey. Bre Bouse (SR/Russiaville, IN) started out pitching and Alyssa Oswald (Wasilla, AK) finished out the last two innings.
Next up for the Warriors is another away weekend in Sioux Center, Iowa starting with Morningside University on Friday, Feb. 25th at 12 p.m. followed by Dordt University at 4 p.m.
