Women's Basketball - Warriors Fall at Home to Vikings

The Waldorf women's basketball team returned to their home court a conference game against Valley City State University. The Warriors competed hard for three quarters but fell 57-75.

Three minutes into the game, the Vikings were the first to score. Lizzie Garza (JR/Brownsville, TX) responded quick and two made free-throws from Kinsey Tweedy (SR/Roselle, IL) tied the game at 4-4.

The Vikings went up 8-15 and Garza scored to add two to close out the first quarter.

Tweedy opened the second quarter with a three-pointer and Sandra Christian (JR/Gainesville, TX) made one of her own to make the score 16-17.

Bethany Rehse (SR/Ida Grove, IA) and Tweedy scored to be down by two before the Vikings drain a three.

With two minutes left, the Valley City went up by six. Taylor Moen (JR/Big Lake, MN) made two free-throws and a three-pointer. At the end of the quarter, the Vikings were up 28-31.

The Vikings had their highest scoring quarter in the third by outscoring the Warriors 14-27.

Garza and Lindsay Field (JR/Eyota, MN) scored back-to-back for the Warriors to start the quarter. A layup from Tweedy made the game back within three before the Vikings scored 14 straight points.

Moen stopped the run with a three and Edosa Ogbemudia (FR/East Bethel, MN) added two. The Warriors trailed 42-58.

Rehse made two 3-pointers with a layup by Moen in-between to start the fourth quarter. The Vikings pulled ahead by 21 points and took the win 57-75.

"Offensively we really struggled to hit shots," stated Head Coach Shawn Chaffin. "For 30 minutes our defense was good enough to keep us in the game, but eventually the dam burst. Need to bounce back."

Four athletes record double-digit points. Garza had a team high of 13 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Rehse finished with 10 points with three assists. Tweedy added 11 points and Moen had 10 points.

The Warriors will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 4^th for a conference matchup against Dickinson State starting at 3 p.m.
