Women's Basketball - Warriors Have Strong Effort Against Mayville State
The Waldorf women's basketball team concluded their last road conference game of the regular season with a matchup against Mayville State. The Warriors battled hard but fell 65-97.
The Comets started the game off very strong with a 20-2 run. Taylor Moen (JR/Big Lake, MN) and Kinsey Tweedy (SR/Roselle, IL) scored back-to-back to stop the run.
Lindsay Field (JR/Eyota, MN) continued the momentum to drain a 3-pointer. Bethany Rehse (SR/Ida Grove, IA) added four points and Sandra Christian (JR/Gainesville, TX) closed out the first quarter with a three. The Comets were up 16-29.
The Warriors were outscored for the second quarter 9-22.
Hailey Maas (JR/McGregor, MN) scored the first jump shot of the third quarter and Eliza McKown (FR/Orono, MN) made two free-throws.
Rehse drained a three with five minutes left in the quarter to make the score 33-74. Edosa Ogbemudia (FR/East Bethel, MN) scored six straight points for the Warriors and Tweedy closed out the quarter with a jump shot.
The Warrior offense had their highest scoring quarter for the fourth and the defense held the Comets to their lowest.
Alyah Abrahamson (FR/Browerville, MN) and Maas opened the quarter by going 4-4 from the free-throw line.
After a Comet three-pointer, Moen responded with one of her own. Jordan Lukes (JR/Fort Atkinson, IA) made two free-throws and then added two more points with a jump shot.
Ogbemudia and Moen scored the final points for the Warriors. The Comets won 65-97.
"Very pleased with our effort on the road on the 2nd night of back-to-back against one of the top teams in the league," Head Coach Shawn Chaffin stated. "Our posts stepped up and played really well combining for 32 points. Big game next week at home vs Viterbo for 6th place!"
The Warriors had three athletes with double-digit points. Ogbemudia finished with 13 points and five points. Rehse was close behind with 12 points and four rebounds. Moen added 11 and Abrahamson had five assists.
Next up for the Warriors is their final home game of the season and honor their two seniors on Thursday, Feb. 16th against Viterbo. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. at Hanson Fieldhouse.
