Waldorf to #25 Northwestern (IA) in 88-54 Loss
Forest City, IA- The Waldorf Warriors battled hard but were ultimately outmatched by #25 Northwestern (IA) University, falling 88-54 in a tough conference matchup on Wednesday evening.
Despite a strong individual performance from sophomore guard Brooke Dial, who led the Warriors with 24 points and 4 steals, the Warriors struggled to keep pace with the Red Raiders.
Northwestern (IA), ranked 25th in the latest NAIA poll, displayed their depth and skill from the opening tip. The Red Raiders jumped out to a commanding lead early, using an up-tempo offense and strong paint presence down low.
In addition to Dial's 24 points, Waldorf's other contributors were few and far between. Guards Alyah Abrahamson, Myia Ruzek, and forward Charlotte Mills each chipped in 6 points, but the Warriors' offense just could not find their rhythm tonight.
"We knew coming into this game that Northwestern was going to be a tough opponent," said Waldorf head coach Shawn Chaffin. "We looked pretty rusty coming out of the break. A tip of the cap goes to Northwestern for playing really well and playing like the national tournament team that they've been and will most likely be again this year."
Waldorf looks forward to their next GPAC challenge on the road versus Doane College on Saturday, December 7th at 2:00pm in Crete, NE.
