Football Announces Changes to 2022 Coaching Staff
FOREST CITY, IA – The Waldorf Football Team announced changes to its coaching staff for the 2022 season. Head Coach Will Finley announced the hirings of defensive line coach Michael Gould and running backs coach Justin Hart. Finley also announced the promotion of Tyler Chapa to special teams coordinator, while retaining his duties with defensive backs and coordination of recruiting.
Chapa will add special teams responsibilities following three seasons with the Warrior defensive backs. A veteran college coach, Chapa also spent three seasons at Doane prior to coming to Waldorf.
"Coach Chapa will solidify our special teams this season," said Coach Finley. "His passion and work ethic will been seen immediately on Saturdays!"
Gould comes to Waldorf by way of Western Illinois University, where he spent the 2021 season as a defensive assistant. Gould was a linebackers coach both at Quincy University in 2020 and at Ellsworth Community College in 2019. He is a 2017 graduate of Upper Iowa University who added a Masters of Science in Educational Leadership in 2021.
"We are extremely excited to have Coach Gould here with us," Coach Finley said. "Coach was raised Iowa and played college football at Upper Iowa. He brings experience and energy to our staff immediately." Gould replaces Shawn Henry, who recently left to become defensive coordinator at Doane University.
Waldorf will not name a defensive coordinator for the 2022 season. Finley, who previously served as Waldorf's defensive coordinator prior to becoming head coach in 2020, will call and organize the defense this season.
Hart joins the Warrior staff following four seasons as an undergraduate assistant coach at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. The experience involved a variety of coaching opportunities, and Hart worked with wide receivers, safeties, and running backs during his tenure. Hart completed his History degree from Oklahoma Panhandle State this past spring.
"Coach Hart is a hard worker and is already making an impact," Finley said. "We are excited for him to be here." Hart replaces fellow assistant Darwin Christiansen in the role. Christiansen will shift to working with the Warrior tight ends in 2022.
The Warriors take to the field this Saturday at Bolstorff Field for a 2 p.m. scrimmage with Iowa Central. The regular season begins when Waldorf travels to Briar Cliff on Aug. 27.
