Waldorf hosts No. 6 Morningside on senior day
FOREST CITY, Iowa - On a cool, rainy afternoon, the Waldorf football team honored 14 players who were playing their final games at Bolstorff Field. The Warriors entertained No. 6 Morningside for senior day. The Mustangs' balanced offensive attack proved too much and handed Waldorf a 70-7 setback.
Waldorf's defense got off to a good start. He forced a turnover on downs on Morningside's opening drive. On a 4th-and-12 from the Waldorf 31, Josh Mitchell broke up a pass down field to hand the ball over to Waldorf. The Warriors were held to a three-and-out. Morningside was able to drive down field for the game's first touchdown. A Zach Chevalier to Drew Sellon 29-yard connection ended an 8-play, 81-yard drive. Chevalier connected on another 29-yard touchdown strike, this time to Zach Morton for a 14-0 Morningside lead. Waldorf quickly cut into the lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Jack Thompson caught the ball on his own 20 and raced 80 yards through the Mustangs' special teams unit for a kickoff return touchdown. Morningside led 14-7 after the first quarter.
Morningside scored often in the second quarter, totally 42 points and led 56-7 at the break. Sellon caught two more touchdown passes. In the first half alone, he caught 10 passes for 159 yards and three touchdowns.
Three Morningside running backs rushed for over 100 yards in the game, led by Nolan Fuller's 116 yards and two touchdowns.
