Warriors lose Homecoming game to Midland
FOREST CITY, Iowa - The Waldorf football team entertained Midland for their annual Homecoming game in windy conditions Saturday at Bolstorff Field. The Warriors scored first, but were unable to maintain the lead and fell to Midland, 28-14.
The two Warrior teams dualed through a scoreless first quarter. The opening quarter included a fourth down Waldorf stop on a Midland drive deep in Waldorf territory that kept the game scoreless. Waldorf took the ensuing drive and marched downfield for an 11-play 87-yard drive that culminated in an Avian Pesina two-yard touchdown run on 4th-and-goal. The Connor Parker PAT gave Waldorf a 7-0 lead early in the second quarter. Midland quickly countered with a scoring drive of their own to tie the game at 7. Teryn Berry completed an 8-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Adams Jr. Midland got the ball right back following a Waldorf fumble on the kickoff. Tyson Denkert took it in from two yards out to give Midland a 14-7 lead. Near the end of the first half, Denkert returned a punt 83 yards for another score that gave Midland a 21-7 lead at halftime.
Neither team scored in the third quarter. Midland scored another touchdown early in the fourth quarter to go up 28-7. Late in the game, Waldorf had another lengthy drive that culminated with six points. Lou Williams hit Kadin Abele in the right side of the end zone for a 9-yard score.
Williams threw for 191 yards on Saturday. Bryce Jones caught 113 of those yards on four receptions. Isaiah Brown had seven tackles and one interception. Neeko Page also had seven stops.
Waldorf (0-6, 0-5 in GPAC) is off until October 19 when they host Northwestern.
