Warriors Win Home Conference Opener 48-3
FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Waldorf football team opened conference play against Presentation at home. Special teams and defense showed up big with only allowing the Saints to score a field goal. The Warriors won 48-3.
The Warriors were able to score on their first drive of the game for 10 plays and 70-yards. Quarterback Jordan Cooper (JR/New Caney, TX) competed an 18-yard touchdown pass to Malik Adams (SR/Cedar Rapids, IA). Defense stopped the Saints from scoring on their first drive and forced them to punt.
Taye Buchanan (JR/Vernon, AL) rushed for 16-yards to get the Warriors in scoring position again. Cooper rushed in for a 10-yard touchdown to end a 3-play 30-yard drive that took just over one minute. The rest of the first quarter remained scoreless with the Warriors up 13-0.
Waldorf defense forced Presentation to have to punt to start out the second quarter. Cooper completed a 40-yard pass to Sam Huntley (SR/Dania, FL) and a 17-yard pass to Mike Mouton (SR/Monroe, LA), as a part of the 8-play 91-yard scoring drive. Huntley had a 14-yard reception touchdown to give the Warriors a 20-0 lead.
With five minutes left in the first half, Cooper competed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Seth Oakes (SR/Fort Worth, TX). The Saints closed out the half scoring a 42-yard field goal to make the score 27-3.
Kasen Handal (SR/Tomball, TX) opened the third quarter by forcing a fumble off a kick return from the Saints. Handal recovered the fumble and returned it for a 13-yard touchdown. Tyler Hopp (SR/Donnellson, IA) forced a fumble from sacking the Saints quarterback, Austin Erdmann (SR/Little Falls, MN) recovered the fumble and returned it for a touchdown, moving the score to 41-3.
Deqwunn McCobb (SR/Bradenton, FL) forced a sack on 2nd and goal for the Saints, with a loss of 8-yards, followed by a second sack from Handal on 4th and goal forcing a turnover on downs. Hopp recovered a fumble off of a punt return to give the Warriors possession again. Javontey Harper (JR/Houston, TX) rushed for 20-yards and then rushed for 1-yard to score a touchdown.
The fourth quarter remained scoreless. Tyler Dennis (SR/Fernley, NV) and Willie Stricklin (SR/San Diego, CA) each had an interception. Connor Parker was 6/6 on extra points. "I'm excited how our guys responded after last weekend. Conference opener, huge win at home for our players and staff," Head Coach Will Finley said. "We will evaluate the film and evaluate the positives and things we can improve!"
The Warriors are now 5-1 overall and 1-0 in conference. Next for the football team is an away conference game at Mayville State University, Saturday October 8th with a 1pm kickoff.
