NSAA Announces Postseason Football Honors

BISMARCK, N.D. – The 2023 North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Football All-Conference teams were announced Monday afternoon by the conference office. The All-Conference teams and postseason awards were voted by the league coaches. The Waldorf football team received 15 All-Conference Awards.

"I am extremely proud of these young men. They fought through adversity and bought into what we were trying to accomplish," stated first-year Head Coach Tyler Chapa. "They worked hard week in and week out, even when it was not easy."

1st Team Offense

Junior running back, Jatoviay Hill (Davenport, IA) finished the year with a total of 886 rushing yards, on 124 carries, averaging 110.8 per game, and 7.1 per carry. He had 12 touchdowns, with his longest being 62 yards.

Senior wide receiver, Malik Adams (Cedar Rapids, IA) led the team with total receiving yards of 583. Adams had 37 receptions, averaging 15.8 per attempt, and had 2 touchdowns.

1st Team Defense

Will Stricklin (San Diego, CA), a junior defensive back, led the defense with a total of 72 tackles, 35 solo and assisted on 32, averaging 7.2 per game.

Senior linebacker, Shannen Williams (Las Vegas, NV) finished the year with 32 solo tackles, assisted on 26, averaging 5.8 per game. He had 2.5 sacks and 2 tackles for loss.

1st Team Special Teams

Junior punter, Isaac Burgett (Alden, MN) punted 38 times for a total of 1321 yards, with 12 landing inside the 20 yard line. His longest punt recorded at 62 yards.

2nd Team Offense

Offensive linemen Logan Miller (JR/Madison Lake, MN) and Kade Kloster-Hodak (SR/Mason City, IA) were selected to the 2nd team defense. Both played integral roles to help the offense get a total of 3,351 yards and averaged 335 per game.

Senior wide receiver, Dom Watt (Hollywood, FL) ended the year with 316 yards on 26 receptions, averaging 35.1 per game, and had 2 touchdowns.

2nd Team Defense

Senior linebacker, Thomas Edwards (Irving, TX) finished the year with 25 solo tackles and assisted on 20, averaging 5.6 per game, and had 1 sack.

2nd Team Special Teams

Watt led the team in kick returners with 16 for 312 yards, his largest was 66 yards. He also had 5 punt returners for 32 yards.

Honorable Mention

Junior defensive back, Kasen Handal (Tomball, TX) finished the year with 64 tackles, 32 solo, and assisted on 32, averaging 6.4 per game.

Keegan Handal (Tomball, TX), sophomore linebacker, had 26 solo tackles and 22 assists, for a total of 48. He had 1 sack for 16 yards.

Junior running back, Taye Buchanan (Vernon, AL) ended the season with 581 rushing yards on 85 attempts, averaging 58.1 per game, and 6.8 per carry. He had 5 touchdowns, with his longest being 62 yards.

Senior quarterback, Jordan Cooper (New Caney, TX) finished the season with 1,428 passing yards, with 105 completions on 182 attempts, and 7 touchdowns. Cooper also added 350 rushing yards on 100 carries with 7 touchdowns.

2023 NSAA Champion of Character

Kloster-Hodak was selected to represent Waldorf as Champion of Character.

Chapa added, "These guys have left a huge mark on our program and helped set the foundation going into the GPAC. We cannot be more thankful for these guys."
