Bio

Joseph Tibbs was appointed Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Waldorf University in January 2025. His nearly two decades of experience across youth and collegiate soccer, combined with extensive athletic administration leadership, have shaped him into a proven program builder and respected leader. Tibbs is widely recognized for revitalizing programs, expanding recruiting pipelines, and developing high-character student-athletes within academically driven and community-engaged environments.

In his first season at Waldorf, Tibbs guided the Warriors to their strongest overall record since 2022, highlighted by a signature victory over Concordia College–Moorhead—one of the program’s most notable results in recent years. He rebuilt the roster with 16 new student-athletes, many of whom made immediate competitive impacts, and significantly elevated the program’s standard following a winless 2024 campaign. Under his leadership, Waldorf produced two GPAC Honorable Mention selections and four Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete honorees, reinforcing a culture grounded in accountability, academic excellence, and performance.

Beyond competition, Tibbs has prioritized comprehensive program leadership at Waldorf. He expanded the Warriors’ domestic and international recruiting footprint, increased program revenue through targeted fundraising initiatives, and led intentional community engagement efforts that connect the program to the region it represents. Waldorf Men’s Soccer student-athletes play an active role in leading recreational youth soccer programs in both Forest City and Lake Mills, providing mentorship, service, and leadership while strengthening the program’s visibility and long-term community impact.

Prior to Waldorf, Tibbs served as Head Men’s Soccer Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at Ecclesia College, where he orchestrated one of the most successful seasons in program history. In his first year, he led the Royals to a 10–6–2 record, the program’s first undefeated NCCAA regular-season conference campaign, and a semifinal appearance in the NCCAA Division I Central Region Tournament. Under his leadership, Ecclesia secured its first-ever victories over NCAA and NAIA opponents, while student-athletes earned NCCAA Central Region honors.

During his tenure at Ecclesia, Tibbs also served concurrently as Boys Technical Director for Arkansas Comets FC, the state’s oldest competitive soccer club. In this role, he oversaw the ECNL Regional League boys’ platform, mentored staff coaches, aligned club-wide methodology, and supported long-term player development and collegiate placement.

Previously, Tibbs served in a dual role as Head Men’s Soccer Coach and Game Day Administrator at Clarks Summit University, where he elevated the program to its most successful NCAA Division III season. He guided the team to a CSAC Tournament berth while also overseeing game-day operations, event management, and administrative coordination. During his tenure, Clarks Summit student-athletes earned 10 postseason conference honors, reflecting both competitive growth and operational stability.

From 2019 to 2021, Tibbs served as Director of Soccer at Talladega College, where he implemented new staffing structures and led both programs to more than 40 individual awards, including All-Conference and All-Academic recognition.

Earlier in his career, Tibbs served as Head Men’s Soccer Coach at the University of Maine–Machias and Fisher College, leading Fisher to the 2018 Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC) Championship. His coaching pathway also includes assistant coaching roles at St. Bonaventure University, Central Connecticut State University, California State University East Bay, Southern Connecticut State University, and Southern Virginia University.

Highly regarded in elite player development circles, Tibbs has worked with South Central Premier (CT), multiple state Olympic Development Programs, and held leadership roles including Boys Director of Coaching at Red Star Soccer Academy (CA), Director of Coaching at Fredericksburg Soccer Club (VA), and Technical Director at Black Hills Rapids Soccer Club (SD).

Tibbs holds an extensive portfolio of coaching credentials, including the Football Association of Wales (FAW) C Certificate, U.S. Soccer National C License, U.S. Soccer National Youth License, United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma, and Director of Coaching Diploma. He is currently pursuing his UEFA B License.

Guided by a faith-driven leadership philosophy, Tibbs is committed to excellence on the field, in the classroom, and within the broader community. Under his leadership, Waldorf Men’s Soccer continues to advance with clear vision, elevated standards, and sustained competitive ambition.
